No previous president would have risked β really, no former commander would have imagined β solo demolishing major areas of the executive mansion to construct a royal-themed celebration hall, with the enthusiastic participation of some of the nation's most affluent, nearly all of which have business with the government.

As confusing as it is to watch the president seek toι’ θ¦ the established notion regarding democracy and exchange it with its polar opposite, there is one large group of Americans who wouldn't consider it completely novel. That is those of us β within elder demographics close to half β who were raised within mainstream Protestant traditions.
We have witnessed across decades as rightwing evangelical churches turned the Jesus we learned about into the complete reverse of who we understood him to be. Essentially, they converted a persona of love into an icon of hostility who blesses specifically the brutality that he criticized in the Gospel; this has happened more slowly, through multiple decades as opposed to months, but it is nonetheless disturbing via comparable methods, a disorienting gut punch for countless people.
A Harmful Christianity Gains Ground
